On Brand Segunda Caida: Necro Butcher in IWA-EC

IWA East Coast is this weird IWA offshoot which has been running in West Virginia forever, its was always available but not super disseminated, tons of it is on IWTV now so I want to grab some good looking Necro matches

Necro Butcher vs. Brain Damage IWA-EC 11/23/07

PAS: This is a first round match in the Masters of Pain tournament, and has to be up there with Necro's greatest death matches. Brain Damage is a rectangle headed death match guy who made his rep on especially hard punches and headbutts, so a natural heavy handed match up for Necro. The first part of this match was really tremendous, worked as an arena brawl with both guys pasting each other with hard shots, and Necro taking a package piledrive on the bleachers and a double knee drop which smushed his head on a chair. It also has maybe the most violent barfight spot I can remember with Brain Damage and Necro just unloading with jaw adjusting shots. The middle section has a bit too much construction for my tastes, with Brain Damage especially taking a long time to set up a barbed wire net between the guardrail and the ring apron. They got back to the bread and butter at the end with both guys just standing and throwing punches until Damage got the knock out with a fireman's carry into a punch, which honestly didn't totally work. Still this was incredibly violent stuff, with most of the match being hard violently brawling.

Necro Butcher vs. Roderick Strong IWA-EC 2/4/09

PAS: Necro versus indy darling is one of my favorite match types ever and this was a great version of that. Strong has been very good for a long time, hits very hard, has a lot of skill, but can be a bit mayonnaise. Necro is a guy who can bring the spices though, and this was a great blend. It actually starts with Strong trying to grapple with Necro, taking him down and trying to work a cross armbreaker. Of course it breaks down to a fight, with Strong absolutely strafing Necro with chops and Necro firing back with sick chops of his own and some of his soup bone right hands. They brawl into the bleachers, and around the crowd and end up in the ring where Necro hits a diamond cutter on the edge of stood up chair, only to get his kidneys driven into the top of the chair with a backbreaker. Lots of moments where I said fuck out loud because of how hard both guys were hitting, killer stuff. 

Necro Butcher vs. Sami Callihan IWA-EC 9/20/11

PAS: This is actually a great blueprint for what an entertaining comeback Necro Butcher match could look like. Sami is really stooging it up at the beginning, Zybyzco stalling, throwing a kids drink away, talking trash. They do some arena brawling, which is mostly softcore hardcore, lots of hitting each other with plastic garbage cans, and plastic signs. Sami does take a big bump down the bleachers, and Necro is chopping hard, but this isn't dangerous stuff. Sami clips the knee, and really works it over, which is a nice showcase for Necro's selling, an underrated part of his game. Necro makes a couple of valiant comebacks, and eventually steals one with an inside cradle. Necro with sick violence and crazy bumps is awesome stuff, but he is really good at working as a hometown hero pulling one out, and if this is the kind of thing we get out of a Necro return tour, just smart safe wrestling, I will be happy.

Low-Ki is a Fake Cartagegna, Nice With The Hands Better With the Banger

Low-Ki vs. Necro Butcher IWA East Coast 7/12/11 - GREAT

ER: Just when you think you've seen 'em all, some match between two legends pops up in your inbox. And it's weird and great because Ki comes out as a full fledged babyface, including bringing a kid into the ring and giving him his t-shirt. Ki giving merch to kids like he was Bret Hart? Wut? Necro immediately recognizes how bullshit that is and jumps him. Ki spends the first few minutes of this as an underdog babyface, which is a weird role I've rarely seen him in; part of the appeal of Ki is that he's often the smallest guy in a match who doesn't care that he's the smallest guy in the match. I liked seeing him treated like the small guy, Necro holding onto ropes to avoid whips, shoving him off with ease, and part of the fun is that you know Ki isn't going to take it for long. I really love when guys like these two show up in places that aren't entirely made up of smark crowds. Feuds in FIP were always more interesting than the same feuds in ROH, because FIP matches would have a ton of weirdos and kids and developmentally disabled people flipping out for the action. Once this match spills to the floor is when it gets really great, because suddenly it looks like Necro is in a sea of varying degrees of Necro clones. Every guy in the bleachers looks like a different era of Necro Butcher, like all all of the Simpson males at the end of the Lisa the Simpson episode. They brawl through the bleachers past all of the various members of the Butcher clan, and you get to hear some kid yell at Ki to kick Necro in the face, and Ki does him one better by doing an awesome double stomp on the bleachers, hopping right onto Necro's chest from 4 rows up. Necro gets the top of his head busted open, Ki throws Necro off the top through a set up chair BY HIS BEARD, kicks and chops from both guys echo through the building, the exact thing you were hoping would happen. We got a ton of Necro gouging at Ki's eyes and face, dropping him with a couple big powerbombs, there was a big spot where Ki came an inch or two from being dropped on his head (looked like he waffled between a somersault bump or flat chest bump and got about the worst combo of those two things), but this felt like a Ki/Necro match at all times. Not sure how I haven't seen this match before, but it made me desperate to see these two working more regional indies and less super indies.

PAS: Their pair of 2006 match are arguably the greatest two match series in indy wrestling history, this is five more years of wear on Necro's body, and it isn't surprising that they couldn't hit those heights again. Still a great match, and a pair of guys with magical chemistry. Necro is a guy Ki can hit as hard as he wants and KI really takes advantage of that, while Necro figures if he is going to get pounded that hard he might as well unload too. I loved all of the fights on the bleachers, it was what I remembered from watching the match years ago. Ki leaping off the bleachers to crush Necro's ribs was super nasty, no give on bleachers, so it was all feet to bones. There were a couple of awkward spots, but the finish was a finish and I am glad this showed up again so I could enjoy.

Wrestle With the Work Dick Togo's Like the Four Horseman, Ric Flair With The Flame He's Motherfucking Gorgeous

Sato/Shiryu/Great Sasuke/TAKA Michinoku vs. Jushin Liger/El Samurai/Shinjiro Otani/Tokimitsu Ishizawa NJPW 6/15/94 - EPIC 

PAS: A hell of match. I was a little hesitant about the NJ Juniors being able to hang in this kind of MPRO sprint, but they totally brought it. Ohtani especially was great, springboarding all over the ring and having a dickhead smirkoff with TAKA. Man alive, the MPRO team were sick athletes, just watching the speed they run the ropes, and the height they get on every move, when Sasuke somersaults through on the dropdown he just floats in the air forever. Of course our boy SATO is at his chubbiest and his fastest, he may have had the prettiest dive of the train with his double jump flip plancha. Liger is also just tailor made for this style, he captains his team so well, he is calling the plays like Jason Kidd. The finish was awesome as we get a triple flying headbutt on Shiryu, before Liger brings him to the top rope and spikes him through the mat with a brainbuster. I don't understand why this style is so bad now, why can't there be guys still doing this? 

Dick Togo vs. Chris Hero IWA-EC 4/5/06 - EPIC 

PAS: It is weird that this match even exists. Togo comes over to US for one show to work Chris Hero in a ladder match for Mad Man Pondo's West Virginia garbage fed, which is just bizarre. It is a hell of match though and the weirdness of it just adds to it. The match starts out with both guys doing some really nice matwork, don't really know the point of putting on submissions in a ladder match, but it was cool. Togo was really working hard, hitting a flip dive onto Hero and a ladder, eating a ladder shot to the mouth and taking a huge backdrop on said ladder. Hero was really good too, bleeding and taking big bumps. This was a before the young KO kid gimmick, but he was unloading with punches and elbows. Finish was pretty cool with Hero springboarding, landing on a ladder and knocking Togo off the other. Easily the best match ever with a Warpig match on the undercard 

Dick Togo vs. Michael Nakazawa DDT 10/24/10 - SKIPPABLE 

PAS: Nakazawa is one of the culturally odd Japanese gimmicks that I do not and don't want to understand. He has facepaint, fishnets and a thong, and mostly wanders around the ring into the crowd. Most of the match is Togo chasing him and hitting him. He does get a bit of offense after kicking the rope into Togo's balls, and proceeds to hit him with a cat o nine tails. Togo does hit a nice senton, but he does that a lot, so nothing to see here.
