What's the Best WWF Lex Luger Match? Is it with Bret?

Lex Luger vs. Bret Hart WWF 5/8/93

ER: This was on the Bret Hart: His Greatest Matches Coliseum Video, and feels like the biggest match of the actual Narcissist run. Hart/Narcissist worked several house show singles matches, and it's a big program when you take a look at the roster at the time. A heel Luger vs. face Bret program would have been a cool thing to see play out on actual TV, and you can see just how well it works in this house show setting. Luger was so much more interesting as a heel during his WWF run, even if the gimmick is one note and undeveloped. It's great watching Luger be uninterested in locking up with Bret, rolling to the floor just to get in front row fans' faces, and he's great staggering around the ring once Hart keeps getting the best of him. It's always fun to me when heel Luger (or really any heel) works like he isn't 30 lb. bigger than his opponent and needs to keep cheating to stay ahead. Every time he comes back against Hart it's because he eyepoked him or held the ropes, and it rules.

Hart's gameplan is really satisfying, pacing out his moves throughout a long match, and they worked cool exchanges around several O'Connor rolls. They do at least three, all with different consequences, and it's neat how they can make something so simple be so sustainable during an almost 20 minute match. Hart tries one and gets a nearfall. Hart tries another and Luger holds on, bucking his hips to bump Hart. Luger tries one later and gets bumped by Hart. It's a neat recurring theme that keeps centering the match. I really loved a cool struggle moment they had over a vertical suplex, where Luger kept positioning and trying to pop his hips to throw a snap suplex, with Hart dropping his butt to deaden his weight, before eventually pivoting and getting a great vertical suplex. Luger sold it with a pair of back bumps, popping back up on the bounce to land again. The match eventually ends with Razor Ramon attacking Hart for the DQ, and then a great moment where Luger takes the pad off his bionic forearm and accidentally wastes Razor instead, and the fans clearly wanted to see Luger/Razor (sadly only run a couple times on house shows). Hart and heel Luger had some great house show main event material, the kind of match that would look great on a PPV and play even better with some stakes. Too bad we never got that.

Was Lex Luger's best WWF match against Bret Hart on a Coliseum Video? With an actual finish it would have certainly been.
