WWE Big 3: Lorcan, Gallagher, Gulak 11/10-11/16 + Bonus 2019 Gulak

205 Live 11/15/19

Jack Gallagher vs. Angel Garza

ER: This was super fun, two guys determined to do what they do in spite of a shitty crowd who iced them the whole damn match (when they weren't chanting for CM Punk). We started with cool mat stuff, both guys twisting ankles, Gallagher stomping the back of Garza's knees, Garza getting a nice ankle pick, and a great spinning headscissors countered into a hard facebuster by Garza. Garza broke out a bunch of cool stuff, like a big hotshot gourdbuster. Gallagher took all of Garza's offense well, got big height on a flapjack and ate that kick to the stomach on the way down. Gallagher is crafty enough to get a real nice nearfall off a small package, both guys really good at making pinfalls count and make it look like they're actually trying to pin someone down; Gallagher would grind an elbow, Garza got the final pin on a very high cradle, it just adds to the feel of a match. Gallagher worked in his awesome headbutt in a great spot, blasting Garza after flipping out of a powerbomb, but it was all admittedly frustrating just how cold the crowd was being. I appreciate that they were confident enough to work their match in a vacuum, but they deserved better.

Drew Gulak vs. Tony Nese

ER: This was from that cursed part of 2019 where WWE was giving Tony Nese 18 minutes a week to smear Nese all over our screens. And this is a lot of Gulak getting dominated by Nese. Now Gulak is a guy who can work fun comebacks in brief flashes, so he was able to add some strength there. But it's not worth the tradeoff of Nese controlling a long match. It also didn't help that the match didn't pick up until about 9 minutes in, and fans aren't going to be into Tony nese working holds. Gulak's peppering in comebacks were easily the reason to watch this match, as he clearly looked like the guy who should be focused on. He threw a couple nice lariats, and I liked his use of his reverse momentum sunset flip, thought it made for a smart nearfall placement. But this just made me resentful that they stuck a bunch of guys with Tony Nese for so much of the year. Tony Nese even pointed to the WrestleMania sign a couple times. Yuck.
