Indy TV Sampler- NWA Mountain State

Eric has been review APW in Northern California off and on, and I have been revisiting Wildeside. This week I am going to take a break from Wildside and every day at Noon, I will look at the most recent TV show from an independent promotion. With youtube and Vimeo there is more available then ever. Something might even catch my eye and get a regular recap spot on Segunda Caida. We are going to start today with NWA Mountain State out of West Virginia.

Episode 282

We get some vignettes to start. Karl is upset with a commissioners decision. Steve Off and Dan Murdoch have a score to settle with each other. We get a music video about Bulldozer, who is a big Vader looking guy with a goofy yellow mask. Honestly this video package kind of worked, it made me want to see the guy wrestle.

Steve Off v. Dan Murdoch

Steve Off is the Silver Screen Superstar, and Dan Murdoch is the All American Nightmare. This match is joined in progress and we only get the near fall run at the end. Murdoch doesn't look in particularly good shape, but he has a nice top rope elbow drop. Steve Off makes a lot of very emotive faces. For a Silver Screen superstar he seems to be playing to the back of the theatre. They go to the floor and get counted out, and Murdoch gets jumped by Cruise Control, two trailer park guys with Jeans and no Shirts. Hard to get much of sense of anyone, although I did like what I saw of Murdoch

The STRO !! cuts upcoming card promos. The Stro looks like Dirty Rhodes now and is clearly working a people champion Dusty Rhodes gimmick

We get interviews from The Bulldozer and Lance Erickson.Lance Erickson is apparently the Canadian Lion and from his accent is clearly from the Southern most part of Canada.

Man the heel announcer in this fed is unbearable. I am going to have to hear a bunch of bush league Bobby Heenans before this project is over.

Bulldozer v. Lance Erickson

Erickson apparently worked in OVW according to the announcers. Two big guys slugging each other is always a type of wrestling I enjoy. Nothing fancy, but the forearms looked like they connected. This goes about 6 minutes before we get another double countout (which the douchey heel announcer makes a shoot comment about). I am not sure whether some tight forearms to the face is all these guys can do, but I wouldn't mind seeing the do it for a little longer.

The Reaper Matt Conard v. Scotty "The Iceman" Rains

This is a TV title match, and these aren't a pair of guys with 10 minutes in them. Conard has shitty tats and hot topic gear, and Rains is a 5'2 Black guy with a huge head (although he doesn't work a hard head gimmick, which seems like a waste to me.) Most of the match is Conard working over Rains's ribs. For every good looking move he would have a bad looking one, Rains big comeback was a little slap punchy. Finish had Conard win the title with some more help from the dastardly Cruise Control

Post match Rains superkicks the heel announcer, which makes him a babyface to me, since I don't have to hear that guy anymore. He should superkick the face announcer too, and we could just have silence

We get a promo from the heel group, and one of the Cruise Control is pretty good on the mike

Karl v. The Stro + Johnny Blast

Karl has been complaining all episode, but being forced to defend his belt in an handicap match seems like a legit gripe. The heel announcer is back pretending to have amnesia. Johnny Blast is a creepy looking guy, he has long stringy hair and a giant mole on his face, he is a very strange looking babyface. Match is pretty much a one sided beat down. The Stro has really nice looking chops, and a nasty looking Garvin stomp. Karl hits the ref and gets DQed.

I might look around for a couple more competitive Stro matches, but I can't see myself checking out too many whole shows.

This fed tapes in my hometown every couple of weeks. It's strange in that it seems the entire roster other than the Stro changes depending on the town. So if you watch again you'll probably see different guys. The Outlaw Rock Star is among the worst announcers I've ever heard and I miss the days of strung out Buddy Landell announcing for the fed.

Yeah if I remember correctly it was as awesome as you'd imagine. Unfortunately this was back when the fed was only on local public access and didn't post the videos online as far as I know.

Buddy Landell was an awesome commentator, and Stephen Hensley is the best we've had in a long time. Go back and watch it when Buddy Love was commentating and you'll be begging for the Rockstar.

Thanks for watching the show, I'm the close cameraman and I hope you'll take a chance and watch more, it's not all as bad as it seems.
