2014 Ongoing Match of the Year List

17. Necro Butcher v. Stockade SWA 3/1

ER: Necro doesn't work nearly as much as he used to, so I'm always excited when some new Necro shows up. I'd never seen Stockade before, but sight unseen based off his name I was crossing my fingers for a fat guy working a son-of-Roadblock gimmick. And well...I wasn't too far off. Stockade is short and fat and kinda looks like a county Parks Dept. employee. He wears the same kinda tights/singlet combo as Roadblock, too! And has a ponytail! I was sold on this before it began. Necro mixed up a bunch of fun offense to start, kicking out Stockade's knee to finally shoulderblock him down, then peppering him with tons of big chops, brutal right hands, a mule kick, and freaking Ricky Steamboat overhand chop. Stockade gets a long control segment and has fun stocky fatty offense (oh...is that his name because he's Stocky?). I especially liked his fat guy yakuza kicks. The best stuff happens when they brawl on the floor to end it, with both guys throwing bombs and headbutts and front kicks (Necro's barefoot front kick is always the grossest).

PAS: I remember digging Stockade when I saw him live at an EVOLVE show (he was my third favorite guy behind Finlay and Callihan). Necro is always great at slugfest matches, and Stockade is game to give him a slug fest. This took a bit to get going, but by the end it was a really great brawl.  We didn't get any big Necro bumps (I am not sure he has those in him anymore), but we do get a lot o great Tenryuish potato shots, and Stockade realizes where he is and fires back. I was pretty irritated with the countout, it seems so weird to book Necro on your show and end the match right as it is starting to get really good.

Stockade! I remember that at that Evolve show Phil was talking about the Segunda Caida 500 and how he wanted to make sure he checked out indy fat guys across America to make sure none were overlooked for his list.
