MLJ: Guerreros del Infierno B-15: Último Guerrero vs Satánico

2001-05-11 @ Arena México
Último Guerrero vs Satánico

Yeah, this was super heated too. It's surprising just how few singles matches Satanico and Ultimo Guerrero had, especially because I don't think there was any real illusion when it came to the idea that Rey might be on UG's level star-power wise. There's this one and then one in 2003. That's what I can find on the match finder at least. No apuestas match either save for the multi-man cage.

I'm really glad this popped up though. It's got some goofy ref stuff and a pretty BS finish (on paper at least), but it's heated and violent and full of hate. I really like Satanico as a cheered rudo. He ends up a tecnico as he gets somewhat older but this was the period after the Nuevo Infernales betrayal but right before Averno showed up and he was definitely still a rudo. He was just the older favorite and sympathetic. It let him still be dirty and devious, rudo numero uno, but also fiery and able to have big comebacks.

That's what happened here. Guerrero attacked him right from the start, before he could even get his jacket off. He pummeled him, bit him, stomped repeatedly and then hit a huge back elbow. Guerrero played to the crowd but in a way that was pretty dickish, young and arrogant, very much in his role. He took the caida with his feet on the ropes.

Satanico complained after the fall, but all that did (as Tigre Espano was very much inclined against him here) was let UG ambush him again. There was some pretty nasty footchoking. In the primera, UG hit a nice drop toe hold and elbow drop to help set up the finish. Here he went for it again but Satanico rolled; that led to him getting whipped and dropkicked out. It was a canny little move despite that, as UG followed it up by taunting him and the fans through the ropes and Satanico just yanked him out.

One posting later (and a tease of a cut off due to more ref interference, but just a tease), and Satanico was in charge. He was de facto babyface here, and after some basking in the crowd adulation, he hit a rara 'rana for the caida.

The tercera was a satisfying war with an ending more satisfying than it ought to have been. Satanico tore at the mask. UG hit axe bomber-ish clotheslines. UG missed a moonsault, still went for the Guerrero Special, and was repelled. Satanico hit a huge senton, but had his second rana attempt reversed to a roll through. UG finally took his huge knee-first corner to the floor bump, which led to a (just as rare as the rana) Satanico tope. The two of them kept stopping each other from entering the ring after that and we got the count out and post match shenanigans with Tarzan Boy in a neck brace, an ambush from Rey Bucanero, and Shocker making the save.

It's just a shame there isn't more of the feud online because all of this stuff was great.
